AITKIN COUNTY HAS OPENINGS ON THE FOLLOWING COMMITTEES:

Aitkin County Health & Human Services Advisory Committee

• Commissioner District 1 (One Opening)
• Commissioner District 2 (One Opening)
• Commissioner District 4 (Three Openings)
• Commissioner District 5 (One Opening)

The Aitkin County Health & Human Services Advisory Committee is seeking members to fill its openings for next year. Members of the committee actively participate in the formulation and ongoing review of the plan for the development, implementation, and operation of the programs and services of the Health & Human Services Board in its mission to assist citizens, preserve families, and promote dignity, safety, health, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.

Term is for two years and must be able to commit to attending, at least, six meetings per year.

Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Board

• Aitkin County

The Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Board (AIKCHB), established in 1977, has an opening for a representative from Aitkin County. The AIKCHB is a joint powers board governed by the Local Public Health Act, or MN Statute 145A. The board is responsible for the assessment, planning and adoption of a Community Health Plan and for recommendations and advisement for the provision of public health services in the tri-county service area. The board recommends a community health administrative budget and may apply for funding for the provision of public health services. “The mission of the Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Services system is to lead efforts to promote and protect the health of people and communities in the tri-county area.”

The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners will make the selection at their Tuesday, November 28, 2017 Health and Human Services Board meeting. East Central Regional Library Board

• At Large

Serve as a citizen representative from Aitkin County on the joint governing board of East Central Regional Library, along with representatives of Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, and Pine Counties. The Board is comprised of 1 county commissioner and 2 citizens appointed by each of the respective counties who are signatories of a Joint Powers Agreement. The Board is responsible for policies, goals and objectives, budget, hiring a director, and advocacy for the regional library system. Board meetings are held at 9:30 a.m. on the second Monday of the month, generally at the regional library headquarters in Cambridge with 2-3 meetings per year at one of the other branch libraries. Board members also serve on working committees as appointed by the Board President. Mileage is reimbursed.

Extension Committee

Terms are for three years, ending December 31, 2020

• Commissioner District 5 (One Opening)

Responsible for overseeing the County Extension Department. County Extension covers the areas of nutrition and youth leadership development, including the 4-H program. Meetings are held quarterly. Committee members receive a per diem and mileage reimbursement for each meeting. Terms runs from January 2018 through December 31, 2020.

Reviews variance applications and interpretations from Aitkin County Zoning Ordinances. Individuals will participate in public hearings for reviewing variance applications from Aitkin County Zoning Ordinances. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 4:00 P.M.

Applications will be accepted until Noon on November 17, 2017, or until filled. The positions will start the first meeting of January 2018. Terms are three years. Applications can be found on the Aitkin County website (see link below), picked up in the West Annex of the Courthouse, or mailed to you if requested.

• Commissioner District 1, 2, 3, or 4 (Two openings total)

Reviews applications for Conditional Use Permits, Interim Use Permits, Planned Unit Developments, Rezoning and Subdivisions to ensure compliance with Aitkin County Ordinances and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Individual will participate in public hearings for review of the applications. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 4:00 P.M.

Applications will be accepted until Noon on November 17, 2017, or until filled. The positions will start the first meeting of January 2018. Terms are three years.
